South Asian Author Challenge-2010

S. Krishna
is hosting a South Asian Author Challenge which begins 1 January 2010 and ends 31 December 2010. On the challenge page, S. Krishna gives examples of books to choose from as well as an extensive list of authors to choose from as well. Some books I already had in my TBR pile, others I looked up and found interesting, which is how I chose my books. The challenge offers several different options of commitment for this reading challenge and I am opting for the highest level, 10 novels.

The 10 novels I have chosen are:

  1. Saffron Dreams – Shaila Abdullah
  2. Haunting Bombay – Shilpa Agarwal
  3. The Forbidden Daughter – Shobhan Bantwal
  4. The Sari Shop Widow – Shobhan Bantwal
  5. A Disobedient Girl – Ru Freeman
  6. The Namesake – Jhumpa Lahiri
  7. A Breath of Fresh Air – Amulya Malladi
  8. Rooftops of Tehran – Mahbod Seraji
  9. The Girl From Foreign – Sadia Shepard
  10. The Space Between Us – Thrity Umrigar

This challenge looks to be a lot of fun and will expose me to many different cultural novels. Anyone can join by visiting the South Asian Author Challenge.

Thankfully Reading Weekend

This Thanksgiving, well the day after, I shall be spending 3 days enjoying my family and reading books. While many will be out shopping on Black Friday, I shall be home curled up with a cup of coffee and some delightfully good novels.

Jenn, Jen and Beth came up with the idea of the Thankfully Reading Weekend, which is a non-challenge event that anyone can participate in. The Thankfully Reading Weekend begins on November 27, 2009 and ends on November 29, 2009. This is meant to be a fun event and even has a Twitter hashtag for the weekend event: #thankfulreading.

Join in on the no pressure, no prizes, no challenges reading weekend. To learn more or to sign up for that promises to be a fun weekend of good food, good friends, and good books head to Book Blog Social Club! I look forward to chatting with fellow readers this coming Thanksgiving weekend.

2009/2010 Stephanie Plum Reading Challenge

Imagine my delight when I came across this challenge! I began reading these books when my twins were babies and well, life got really busy with twin babies and a toddler and I sort of left this series behind. Each time I see a new book out I think, I am going to begin again, yet never do. Now I definitely will be reading those books! I must find the first few I know they are here somewhere.

The rules are straightforward and can be found on J. Kaye’s Book Blog. In short I am to catch up on the Stephanie Plum books I have not read, post reviews, link to the central site, especially when I have completed the challenge. The Challenge ends 31 December 2010. Plenty of time.

Since I cannot even recall the first one, I need to go back to the beginning, so here is my list:

1. One for the Money
2. Two for the Dough
3. Three to Get Deadly
4. Four to Score
5. High Five
6. Hot Six
7. Seven Up
8. Hard Eight
9. To the Nines
10. Ten Big Ones
11. Eleven on Top
12. Twelve Sharp
13. Lean Mean Thirteen
14. Fearless Fourteen
15. Finger Lickin’ Fifteen

The most difficult part for me will be remembering to update my blog. I do have excellent intentions.
