I am in the midst of the Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon. So far the day has gone much worse than I thought reading wise. I did think I would get a good 6 hours of reading done in the car, however that did not happen, rather we discussed colleges on the drive there and the college visited on the way home. I did have a delightful time with my oldest and his plans.

Pizza has been ordered and I will be sitting down to read a different selection of books than I previously thought I would be reading, due to time. My hopes are to finish and read:

• A Distant Melody by Sarah Sundin
• Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze
• How Clarissa Burden Learned To Fly by Connie May Fowler
• Sea Witch by Helen Hollick (something keeps interrupting me with this book and I am loving this book).

It is 8:00A.M, the official start time in my time zone and I am beginning the 24-Hour Read-a-Thon with Watchlist which is based on a idea by Jeffery Deaver. After Watchlist, I will read The Evolution of Shadows by Jason Quinn Malott. After I complete those two novels I will assess what I am in the mood to read and take it from there. Go Team Byron!

Tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. EDT I shall be officially beginning Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon . This is the second time I have participated, however this time will be very different for me. The Read-a-Thon happens to fall on the day we are scheduled to visit my oldest son’s first choice College, so clearly I will be unable to read for a large portion of the day. On the bright side, it is a long car trip. Due to the fact I will not always be near a computer at the official start time, I will queue my starting post to coincide with the official starting time. I will check in when I get back and write a final conclusion post. I have no idea what the challenges will be or if I will be around to participate in them, I will know more tomorrow. As for what I will be reading? I am not certain, I am not wanting for books and think I may literally begin from the top and work my way down. I have no illusions of me reading for 24 hours. My days of all-nighters have come and gone. I am looking forward to tomorrow and shall endeavour to read as many books as I am able to. As for food, my husband will keep me fed and he may even make gingersnaps. Go Team Byron!

The Clear Away The Clutter Read-A-Thon is in full swing. The fourth activity comes from Teens Read and Write.

1.) Is there at least one book on your growing TBR that has been there forever and (if you were honest) you could give up without to much trauma?

If I own the novel, it was purchased because I wanted it for my personal library. Removing one would not bring trauma, but I see no need to remove one.

2.) What is your latest “Gotta Have It” book? (that you can get once you’ve given up that one in question #1)

I am altering this to, when I have read my novels, since I do collect them. My next novel will probably be: To Defy A King by Elizabeth Chadwick

3.) What are your classics – you’re ‘comfort books’ that you never want to give up?

My Austen collection, my Bronte collection, and my entire Russian Literature collection.

4.) What are your best tips for keeping that TBR in check?

Buy what you can reasonably read and then as the pile goes down, reward yourself with a book or two. Buy only the books you are passionate about.

The review-a-thon is all about getting one’s reviews in order. How will I or do I keep my reviews organised?

As I stated yesterday, I am quite anal-retentive in my reading and reviewing of books. Each book is tagged with a coloured Post-It note and logged into my planner upon its arrival. All my reviews are done immediately upon completing the novel. I do not even contemplate beginning another novel until I review the novel I have recently completed. This works for me, it may take a little longer to get to my next book, however, all my reviews are finished in a timely manner.

I am finally joining in the 12×12 Challenge. I have seen it around and really did not know much about the challenge, so I stayed quiet. The challenge this month is being hosted by Sheila and all the information and sign-up link can be found at her website – One Person’s Journey Through A World of Books.

My personal goal is going is to add in books I am not quite certain I have time to get to this month, but really want to read. I set the bar high for myself, my list my not look impressive, however if one could see my April planner it would be quite clear why these 10 books are indeed a challenge. Wish me luck!

Anyone can participate in the Clear Away the Clutter Read-A-Thon and I hope many bloggers as well as non-bloggers plan to participate. Each person can read as little or as much as they wish, s this is meant to be fun!

The Clear Away the Clutter Read-A-Thon Begins: 7am, Monday, April 5th and Ends: 11pm, Sunday, April 11th

I have neither decided how long I will be reading for nor do I have any idea which books I will be choosing to read. As the event moves closer I will have a better idea of my book choices.

The challenge runs from January 1, 2010 through December 15, 2010. The rules are rather simple, the novels must be French Historical Fiction or French Historical Non-Fiction.

There are three reading challenge levels to choose from:

La Princesse: Read 3 books
La Dauphine: Read 6 books
La Reine: Read 9 books
L’Impératrice: More than 9 books

Being an optimistic reader, I am striving to reach the level of L’Impératrice.

I have already blogged about the New Year Read-A-Thon I am participating in, but I also will be joining in the other event hosted by Bookworming In the 21st Century. This read-a-thon will overlap the other one I am doing, but I wanted my readers to know about this option as well. It can be as long or as short as you like. Begin reading 5 minutes before midnight or read all night long. There are no time constraints. The Read-a-thon is open to all people and is a delightful way to add your children into the picture.
