The Sunday Salon (TSS: 6/5/11)

The Sunday Salon.com

Life: Whew!  I made it through May, now to just get through this next week with what is left of my sanity and all will be well, or at least much better.

Family Update: My oldest son graduated from High School over the weekend.  He had several ceremonies before the final ceremony which was on Saturday.  We have out of town company, which is cutting in to my reading time significantly.

Saturday Night: I spent the evening entertaining out of town company.  For those who do not know, I do not like to entertain.

Read and Reviewed: This past week I read 7 books, which was 4 more than I had hoped to be able to read, so it was a great reading week.  This week is not much better than last week in terms of schedules so I hope I can keep up with my reading.

Today I will be reading: The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen (sadly I never got to this book in the past two weeks.)

Happy Reading and have a wonderful Sunday.

The Sunday Salon (TSS: 29 May 2011) Memorial Day Weekend Edition

The Sunday Salon.com

Life: Happy Memorial Day weekend to all who celebrate the holiday.  Those of you who follow my blog weekly know this month and the first two weeks of June are a nightmare for me, and the worst will occur beginning on Friday.  Please think happy thoughts for me and my family.

Family Update: For my senior, school is almost over and then we have a flurry of senior activities, then uninvited out of town company arrives, then graduation.   My days are so packed thinking about them makes me want to dive under my duvet and stay there.  Sunday we attended the ceremony for those who have achieved high GPA while participating in sports, Monday night was my oldest son’s last concert and then there was a very long award ceremony, Tuesday was my 20th Wedding Anniversary, Wednesday was another banquet at school, Thursday evening twin 2 was inducted into the German Honour Society and Friday we were in charge of the Theatre Banquet preparations, which was a lot of fun!  Sadly, last week was tame compared to what awaits me and my family this week.

Saturday Night: We all crashed and watch DVDs.  It was our only free day in the near future.

Read and Reviewed: This past week I only read 7 books and reviewed 6 of them, as the 7th was not at all for me.  This week will be so packed with activities due to graduation and out of town guests I am hoping to get 3 books read.

Today I will be reading: The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen (sadly I never got to this book last Sunday)

Happy Reading and have a wonderful Sunday.

Life: Last week I wrote about how crazy my life was and yes, I am extremely stressed.  I am very much looking forward to 6 June, which marks the point in which I shall have some free time and hopefully a lot less stress.

Family Update: School is almost over, the graduation festivities are well underway and soon the big day will be upon us.  In the meantime we have a lot of banquets, awards, and shows to attend in under two weeks.

Saturday Night: Actually the events of Saturday Night began Friday night.  This was the weekend of Xtreme Theatre, 24 hours of creativity culminating in several hours of entertainment, then clean up.  It was a blast and worth the lack of sleep.  There are a lot of talented students.

Read and Reviewed: This past week I reviewed only 7 books and I do not think this next week will even be that high.  It is truly nuts around here.

Today I will be reading: The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen

The Sunday Salon: May Day Edition (5/1)

The Sunday Salon.com

Life: Happy May Day!  I have been dreading the month of May, usually it is one of my favourites, but this year it is going to prove quite taxing and exceedingly busy.

Family Update: The Spring Musical opened last night and is off to a wonderful start and it is always nice to see the actors and crew members completed work.  The sets are stunning, although I may be biased.  My oldest is counting down the days he has left of High School, which are not many at all and twin 2 has been busy focusing on his schoolwork and looking forward to taking Physics this summer.  DH is busy as usual and as I have mentioned previously, this month is going to be stressful, busy, and an absolute nightmare.

Saturday Night: Twin 1 needed to be working the set, so it was just the four of us watching movies together.  We are quite fortunate to have a library so close to us with an extensive DVD selection.

Read and Reviewed: his past week I did read and review 7 books, gave up on 1 book and put up a trailer for a book coming out on the 1st of June (which sounds wonderful).

Today I will be reading: Wrecker by Summer Wood

Happy Reading and have a wonderful Sunday.

I apologise for the numerous posts on Saturday they were a part of the Dewey Read-A-Thon.

Life: Has been hectic as usual and for Spring Break the weather has either been sunny or we have experienced massive storms.  Today it is supposed to be 80 breaking a 106 year record.

Family Update: We are all well and sad that Spring Break is coming to a close.  My oldest found a college roommate and they have been talking to each other quite a bit.  He seems like a very nice young man and I look forward to meeting him along with his family in August.

Saturday Night: I did most of my power reading during the first half of the read-a-thon so I could chill out with my guys and watch movies.  I figured I would need a night of silliness and little thinking then some reading before the official (for me it is 8am).

Book News: I am still participating in Dewey’s Read-a-Thon. I have until 8AM EDT.

Read and Reviewed: It was a fairly good reading week for me. Not including the books I have read and I am still reading for for the read-a-thon, I managed to read and review 9 books, not bad for it being Spring Break.

If you do not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: Probably nothing.  Seriously after a 24 read-a-thon I need a break.

Happy Reading and please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

The Sunday Salon (TSS: 3 April 2011)

The Sunday Salon.com

Life: Happy April to everyone!  I know I mention this each new month, but where is the year going?  I want it to slow down, but that does not seem likely.

Family Update: Spring Break began for us on Thursday afternoon and we have been enjoying every moment.  On Friday we went to visit, again, the University our oldest will be attending in less than five months.  He met with the chair of the department of one of the two programmes he plans to major in.  He did visit the other department, but did not have an official appointment scheduled.  Despite the odd weather for this time of year we had a lot of fun.

Saturday Night: We started early with games, pizza, movies and movie food.  We stayed up late and had an extremely enjoyable evening.

Read and Reviewed: I managed to read and review 9 books, so I am happy.  I have exceeded reading and reviewing 100 books in 2011 and I needed the weekend diversions for a little break.  If one does not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: Song of Slaves in the Desert by Alan Cheuse

Life: What a week it has been!  I am glad a new one is beginning and surprised to realise this is the last TSS of March.  Time keeps accelerating when I would like it to slow down.  The crocuses have bloomed and gone, the daffodils are now in full bloom, plants are sprouting up, trees are budding and soon the tulips will be opening.

Family Update: My week began rather unfortunately and DH was kind enough to take a very extended weekend to be with me.  For us it was a rare treat.  Granted much of the time we spoke of how we would pay for college, upcoming trips the guys are taking, the new roof that will be under construction soon and a much needed new driveway.  I never said my life was exciting.   We also spent much needed down time checking out movies from the library.  We do not go out to see movies, so basically anything after 1988 is fair game, which means we have a lot of movies to select from.  I finally was able to watch all of the Matrix movies, something I had wanted to do for some time.  I find it interesting that I do not enjoy sci-fi books, but in movies I usually do not mind.

Saturday Night: Once again we found ourselves without one of the boys this weekend.  This time it was Twin A’s turn to be out of town.  There was a theatre competition and so he was away for that.  My oldest did not have to work in the morning so the four of us stayed up appalling late watching movies of various genres and slept in shamefully late, all that was missing was Twin A.

Read and Reviewed: With the week I was having my goal was to read four books and I managed to read and review 6 books, so I am happy.  I have a back log of books I had hoped to read, but as of Thursday I had read and reviewed my 95th book of 2011 and decided I deserved a break.   If one does not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: History of a Suicide by Jill Bialosky

My Life; Pain, Abundant Energy, Fog, and Medicine “Hangover”, Repeat

I have numerous faults, I am the first to admit them, and while it would make an intriguing blog post I shall not list them now. I do not like to share to much of my life, especially on-line since anyone can read it, however I am not as special as I wish, so what I have to share will be rather dull for anyone looking for anything exciting.

Thank you to everyone who wished me well yesterday. A few know I had a dreadful day and I wanted to briefly follow up and give everyone a heads up as to what the next few days will hold for me. After I came home yesterday my orders were to go straight to bed. That never works (it never has, but the neurologists are always so optimistic) first I am a mum and secondly, medicine works strangely on me. The hospital assumes it will knock me out for the night at the bare minimum, but it never does. I end up wide-awake, still in pain, but with an abundant amount of energy. This is not a good thing, but I did get some reviews written, but no rest, which my brain dreadfully needs. The next day (today) I spend in a complete fog, I can barely function; it is like trying to accomplish things through murky water. Tomorrow, if history is any indicator, I will have a medicine “hangover” which will render me quite cross. Then, if I am very lucky, I will have a brief respite of lower levels of pain before I repeat the process all over again.

This is my life. I am quite used to living this way, I have seen every specialist available and I accept my lot. I did want to inform you my faithful readers why at times my posting is less than stellar, spotty or reviews are not as plentiful. Feel free to ask any questions, as today is my non-crabby day. ;)

I really need to get a migraine icon/graphic.

Life: Spring has sprung here, the flowers are in bloom as are allergies.  It is always nice to be able to air the house out.  I do enjoy the smell of spring, before the oppressive heat and humidity arrive.  The next few months are going to be filled with a flurry of activities, some I am looking forward to and others I am quite dreading.

Family Update: We are all almost recovered and looking forward to spring break in a few weeks.  My oldest reminded us that in less than 5 months he will be living away from home.  I am trying to focus on the now, rather than five months from now.  We spent all day Saturday in the yard working on sprucing it up, it was too good a day not to be outside working in the yard.

Saturday Night: After working into the yard later than we planned we chose to skip games and head directly to relaxing with movies and pizza.

Read and Reviewed: I managed to read and review 8 books.  If one does not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: Love You More by Lisa Gardner

Life: Taking in account the tragic events occurring in Japan, my week was in retrospect pleasant.   It rained all week and I ended up quite ill and spent most of the week and the weekend in bed.  Not exactly how I hoped things would turn out this past week and then I discovered we had to set our clocks ahead, I am not a morning person to begin with, losing an hour is quite unpleasant.  However, the sun is now shining, the crocuses are in full bloom and the tulips have grown at a rapid rate and I no longer think my lungs will burst when I cough.

Family Update: Oldest son is thrilled with his college choice and is looking forward to visiting the campus again in a few weeks.  The twins are well and beginning to plan their college visits.  DH has been fighting a bad cold and I am trying to recover.  The guys have been very helpful running errands, cleaning, cooking, and are thrilled they no longer have to help quite so much.

Saturday Night: If you have read this far, you know I have been ill so I spent the evening in bed.  The guys indulged me and allowed me to choose the movies.  I can neither taste nor smell, but spicy Pad Thai does seem to help so we had a Thai food fest with the movies.

Read and Reviewed: I managed to read and review 11 books (I know, I am shocked as well).    If you do not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: (if I am able to stay awake) Unfamiliar Fishes by Sarah Vowell (yes I have been trying to read this for weeks.)

Happy Reading and please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.
