The Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com

I enjoy being able to take time on Sundays to curl up with a good book or two. Today I am going to begin reading two books for future reviews:

Trust Me by Peter Leonard (for a review), 290 pages.
Breaking the Bank by Yona Zeldis McDonough (for a review) 349 pages.

I have a giveaway running until October 12th. I am giving away 5 copies of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Please enter here.

I am now into my fourth week of attempting to fit Outlander into my reading schedule. Apparently I need more than luck. We are in the midst of painting two rooms and tiling a bathroom, it is difficult, but not impossible to get reading in.

Happy Reading and please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

All are welcome to join The Sunday Salon.

Catagory: Fiction
Format: Paperback
Edition: Movie tie-in
Publish Date: 10/1/2009
ISBN: 9780316044400

From the Publisher:

Once in a generation a novel comes along that taps a vein of universal human experience, resonating with readers of all ages. THE LOVELY BONES is such a book — a #1 bestseller celebrated at once for its artistry, for its luminous clarity of emotion, and for its astonishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of readers around the world.

“My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973.”

So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on earth continue without her — her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling. Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, THE LOVELY BONES succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

The major motion picture version of THE LOVELY BONES, directed by Peter Jackson and starring Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, and Saoirse Ronan is scheduled for release on December 11, 2009.

Alice Sebold is the author of three #1 bestselling books, the novels The Lovely Bones and The Almost Moon and the memoir Lucky. She lives in California with her husband, the novelist Glen David Gold.

Cleopatra’s Daughter-A Book and Pen Giveaway!

************************Closed**********************
An excerpt from the website of Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran:

The marriage of Marc Antony and Cleopatra is one of the greatest love stories of all time, a tale of unbridled passion with earth-shaking political consequences. Feared and hunted by the powers in Rome, the lovers choose to die by their own hands as the triumphant armies of Antony’s vengeful rival, Octavian, sweep into Egypt. Their three orphaned children are taken in chains to Rome, but only two—the ten-year-old twins Selene and Alexander—survive the journey. Delivered to the household of Octavian’s sister, the siblings cling to each other and to the hope that they will return one day to their rightful place on the throne of Egypt. As they come of age, they are buffeted by the personal ambitions of Octavian’s family and court, by the ever-present threat of slave rebellion, and by the longings and desires deep within their own hearts.

Author Michelle Moran has offered to give away a copy of her latest book, Cleopatra’s Daughter, to one of my readers anywhere in the world!

The Smart One and the Pretty One- Book Giveaway (5 copies!)

The description of the novel straight from Hachette’s site:

When Ava Nickerson was a child, her mother jokingly betrothed her to a friend’s son, and the contract the parents made has stayed safely buried for years. Now that still-single Ava is closing in on thirty, no one even remembers she was once “engaged” to the Markowitz boy. But when their mother is diagnosed with cancer, Ava’s prodigal little sister Lauren comes home to Los Angeles where she stumbles across the decades-old document.
Frustrated and embarrassed by Ava’s constant lectures about financial responsibility (all because she’s in a little debt. Okay, a lot of debt), Lauren decides to do some sisterly interfering of her own and tracks down her sister’s childhood fiancé. When she finds him, the highly inappropriate, twice-divorced, but incredibly charming Russell Markowitz is all too happy to re-enter the Nickerson sisters’ lives, and always-accountable Ava is forced to consider just how binding a contract really is . . .

I shall be receiving my review copy shortly, but I wanted to get the contest up for my readers straightaway! Until my review is up dear readers, you can look over the Reading Group Guide, the Author’s website, or peruse the book in the widget below.
