Clear Out The Clutter Read-A-Thon Activity #5: De-Clutter the Blog

The Clear Away The Clutter Read-A-Thon is in full swing. The fifth activity comes from A Passion For Books.

In this activity, I want you to make some goals, pertaining to cleaning up your blog. This can include anything you would like, as long as it has to do with your blog. For example: sidebars, review and/or author lists, etc.

  1. Clear up my sidebars
  2. Clear out old links
  3. Clean-up my various pages
  4. Back-up my blog.

The Four Month Challenge

I could blame weakness for challenges on a number of things, however, what it truly boils down to is the fact that I adore reading and I caved. This challenge begins March 1,2010 and ends June 30, 2010.

Awesome Author Challenge 2010

The Awesome Author Challenge 2010 is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books. Why did I choose this challenge when I am already signed up for several? This challenge requires me to choose authors I have been told great things about, but have yet to read.

The Rules are quite simple to follow.

  • Challenge begins 1 January 2010 and ends 31 December 2010
  • Cross-overs from other challenges are allowed
  • The books to not need to be predetermined and can change throughout the year.
  • The authors can be from any genre, you must have heard great things about them and have not read their works.
  • You must sign up here.

As with most challenges there are several levels of participation.

  • Easy: Choose three authors and read at least one title from each author.
  • Moderate: Choose six authors and read at least one title from each author.
  • Challenging: Choose ten authors and read at least one title from each author.
  • Over-Achieving: Anything over ten authors.

I am going to aim for Over-Achieving, I cannot help myself! The authors I propose to read are (yes I realise I have 11, not 10):

  1. Shilpa Agarwal
  2. Shobhan Bantwal
  3. Yasmine Crowther
  4. Sarah Dunant
  5. Ru Freeman
  6. Diana Gabaldon
  7. Susan Higginbotham
  8. Kathleen Kent
  9. Juhmpa Lahiri
  10. Kathryn Stockett
  11. Jeane Westin

If you think this sounds fun for the new year, check out the official page and join in!

2010 100+ Reading Challenge

In 2010 I am hoping to keep far better records of the books I read, as I completely lost track in 2009, granted I still have a little over a month to try and recall all I red, but honestly I just do not have the energy. I shall be trying a new method to keep track of all the books I read during the new year.

The challenge runs from 1 January 2010 until 31 December 2010. Anyone may join and any genres are allowed. For more information about the challenge or to sign up, visit J Kaye’s Book Blog.

Clear Off Your Shelves Challenge

I know, another challenge I am joining, even when I said no more. This challenge is designed to help those of us clear off our bookshelves of books that have been sitting around for 6 months or longer. I am rather guilty of owning books that have been sitting around. I buy one, see another I need to read, and so on. Eventually, I have full shelves. My goal is to read 40%. The Clear Off Your Shelves Challenge runs from 10/01/2009-11/30/09 and anyone can sign up here.

The Sunday Salon-My First

The Sunday Salon.com

I am joining what is know as The Sunday Salon. I decided it would be best to use the site’s own words to describe to others new to this wonderful weekly event, rather than muck it up. The following is directly from The Sunday Salon (yes, I did ask first).

“What is the Sunday Salon? Imagine some university library’s vast reading room. It’s filled with people–students and faculty and strangers who’ve wandered in. They’re seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they’re all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they’ll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon’s literary intake….
That’s what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it’s all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week’s Salon get together–at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones–and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another’s blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one’s earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book. See below for how to join the Salon.

Now for the fun!

First off, BBAW week is finally here! I am so very excited, not only for the contests, interviews and reviews (as I have concluded my TBR list can never be too long), but also to see which bloggers won which categories.

I am also joining another book challenge (I know!) this one could not be passed up and the sign-ups have not even begun. (see I have time) S. Krishna will be hosting a South Asian Authors Challenge and I am very excited!

This past week has been a whirlwind of reading, all wonderful reads, and those will be posted here tomorrow, so please check back!

I have 2 book giveaways ending very soon. Cleopatra’s Daughter by Michelle Moran ends on (9/14), and The Smart One and the Pretty One by Claire LaZebnik (5 Copies) ends on (9/15).

Today I am curling up with books, coffee, green tea, and then switching back to coffee in the evening, and hopefully I will read and begin the reviews for the following books:

Bo’s Cafe by John Lynch, Bill Thrall, and Bruce McNicol (for a review and blog tour), 240 pages.
The Ice Chorus by Sarah Stonich (for a review), 328 pages
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, of which I have thus far only managed 32 out of 850 pages and it is not for lack of interest!

Crossing my fingers that I am able to dig my teeth into Outlander this week! Happy Reading and please feel free to leave comments or suggestions!
