The Sunday Salon (TSS: July 10, 2011)

The Sunday Salon.com

Life:  My blog is back, new and improved! :)   The previous week was a nightmare and I have three exceptional women to thank for getting me back up and running.  I was unable to get as many reviews as I had hoped to up, but my blog and the security of my blog took precedent.

Family Update:  My family is fantastic!  We are all well and we are enjoy the few weeks we have left together before the oldest heads off to college (6 weeks away, not that I am counting).

Saturday Night: After all that has happened I really needed a break so we did nothing but watch DVDs and play games.  It was too nasty to be outside and my guys were thinking a lazy day sounded perfect.  It was delightful!

Read and Reviewed: This past week I read  6 books but only reviewed 5 books as the fifth book was not to my liking.   If you have time, please take a look at the reviews.

Today I will be reading: The Beginners by Rebecca Wolff

Happy Reading and have a wonderful Sunday.

Bloggiesta Ole! Begins

The three days of Bloggiesta Ole! begins today and ends on June 13th. Any type of blogger is welcome to participate.

Sign in here.
Follow @Bloggiesta on Twitter, and use the hashtag #bloggiesta to join the chatter.

I will use Twitter and write one follow-up post so I do not clutter up my blog or my readers feeds or in-box.

  • Clean up my side bars.
  • Clean up my blog.
  • Organise Goodreads and Library Thing
  • Organise my schedule and purchase a new planner.
  • I do not write posts in advance, only as I read the book, so hopefully I will be able to read more this weekend than usual (I can hope).
  • Visit more blogs, something I have not had much time for.
  • Enter contests. I rarely have time for such luxuries.

Rest, Reading, and Blog Work!

You read the title correctly, scary thought, huh? I am indeed going to try and work on making my blog look better. Definitely not before I rest and read or read and rest. I have not decided the order just yet. I know I definitely plan to do the first two. Working on my blog needs to be done, it is a pity my computer knowledge is so limited. I am hoping I will achieve a seamless transformation; however, there is always the chance something I do could go horribly wrong. Okay, there is a higher than likely chance. Fortunately I have an incredible desire to read and rest! So for now my blog is safe. That being said, Amy made all these beautiful banners, buttons, header, and adorable siggy for me and I really want my blog to be cleaner looking. I know how I want it to look in my head. Getting it to actually look that way is a whole different can of worms. Wish me luck. If nothing else, I will have some great book reviews out of the day or weekend and be well rested! I wonder how long it will take me to give in and hire a professional to sort out my blog?

What Makes A Post?

How is a blog post defined? Are there definitions that I am unaware of? Is one sort of blog post more or less a post then another? If I write about my trip to Marshall’s today, would that be more of a post then say me taking time to take pictures, write captions and link up to WW, visit and comment on the other participating blogs? Or wait, comments would not be factored in. Or would they?
I am really rather confused as to what constitutes a blog post. Is it the time one puts into the actual act of composing the post? Is it the content? The quality of the content? A mixture of all the aforementioned and more? Is there a magic number of posts that make one blogger more a blogger then another?
These questions lead me to then wonder, is there a type of blogger that is harder working than another? If so, how is this measured? Are there categories or degrees of blogging? If so, again, how would this be measured? By time, quality, or content? All of those? None? Am I completely off base?
I always assumed when a person decided to have a blog, it was because that person wanted to blog about whatever appealed to that person. Now I am finding out that this may not be the case? That does not make sense to me. Is someone categorizing blogs and handing out gold stars to some and not others? If so, I will take a pass on the gold star and continue to blog as I have always chosen to blog. I like to blog without guilt, without pressure, and I choose to blog about the things in my life I care to share. So, if I lose a gold star, so be it, I cannot be what I am not.

Any Difficulties Reading This?

It has been brought to my attention that an error pops up when one of my readers tries to view my page. I have asked others and they are not having any difficulties. I do know many using IE are having difficulties. My question is, if you are using Firefox or Safari, are you having any difficulties? I have neither added nor deleted anything from my blog. I am hoping this is an isolated incident that will resolve itself.
