Read!
It is time for the first challenge in the Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon. Elizabeth has asked read-a-thon participants to share their favourite childhood book(s).
My all time favourite book which I still will read, quote from, and read to all three of my boys (I still own my original 1960s era version) is A.A. Milne’s classic Winnie-the Pooh. As a child I loved the adventures of Christopher Robin and the occupants of the 100-acre wood. As an adult I see all of the wisdom and life lessons A.A. Milne passed on to countless children throughout the ages. My deepest gratitude to A.A. Milne for his stories have taught me so very much and continue to this day.
Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon has officially begun! I am going to try and work my way through the list.
The Taken by Inger Ash Wolf
Cold Kiss by John Rector
Cold Shoulder by Lynda La Plante
Desiree by AnneMarie Selinko
Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon officially starts for me at 8:00 EDT. First, my apologies in advance, I may be posting more often than usual today due to mini-challenges throughout the read-a-thon, I shall try to keep the header clear so those not interested may bypass the post. I am ready with plenty of coffee, water, snacks, migraine medicines and accouterments (ice-packs and rice bags). I believe this year I am far more prepared than last, at least I hope so, I definitely cannot do worse. Granted I shall be interrupted for a few hours but it cannot be helped, as it is Homecoming and I must make certain the boys suits are properly fitted and pictures are taken, if possible I shall reassign some of the work necessary to prepare the boys to my darling husband. This year I have a reading plan which I hope to follow, those who know me know I am not quite prone to following a reading plan.
I choose books that appear to be of the same genre, it was rather a fluke, but here it is:
The Taken by Inger Ash Wolf
Cold Kiss by John Rector
Cold Shoulder by Lynda La Plante
Desiree by AnneMarie Selinko
If I happen to read through all of these I have another stack just waiting to be read. I will be thrilled if I manage the four above.
Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon has been officially over now for almost 4 hours and I am just now getting to the completion post, if that gives one any indication of how poorly I did.
What went wrong in my plans?
What went right for me?
What did I get read?
Give thanks where thanks is due!
There are so many people to thank. The Cheerleaders who worked to keep the readers going, the challenge hosts (even if I did not participate in many, I read every challenge, you are indeed a creative lot), the hosts, and every single person who helped make this read-a-thon a success.
I would also like to thank my readers who had to put up with the few read-a-thon posts I did publish.
What will I do differently next time?
I will first and foremost look at my family calendar. I truly forgot about the 12 our trip until the night before the read-a-thon and it tumbled downhill from there. I will participate in the next one and figure I cannot do worse.

I am in the midst of the Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon. So far the day has gone much worse than I thought reading wise. I did think I would get a good 6 hours of reading done in the car, however that did not happen, rather we discussed colleges on the drive there and the college visited on the way home. I did have a delightful time with my oldest and his plans.
Pizza has been ordered and I will be sitting down to read a different selection of books than I previously thought I would be reading, due to time. My hopes are to finish and read:

It is 8:00A.M, the official start time in my time zone and I am beginning the 24-Hour Read-a-Thon with Watchlist which is based on a idea by Jeffery Deaver. After Watchlist, I will read The Evolution of Shadows by Jason Quinn Malott. After I complete those two novels I will assess what I am in the mood to read and take it from there. Go Team Byron!

Tomorrow at 8:00 A.M. EDT I shall be officially beginning Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon . This is the second time I have participated, however this time will be very different for me. The Read-a-Thon happens to fall on the day we are scheduled to visit my oldest son’s first choice College, so clearly I will be unable to read for a large portion of the day. On the bright side, it is a long car trip. Due to the fact I will not always be near a computer at the official start time, I will queue my starting post to coincide with the official starting time. I will check in when I get back and write a final conclusion post. I have no idea what the challenges will be or if I will be around to participate in them, I will know more tomorrow. As for what I will be reading? I am not certain, I am not wanting for books and think I may literally begin from the top and work my way down. I have no illusions of me reading for 24 hours. My days of all-nighters have come and gone. I am looking forward to tomorrow and shall endeavour to read as many books as I am able to. As for food, my husband will keep me fed and he may even make gingersnaps. Go Team Byron!

Today is the day! The Read-a-thon has begun and I am down sick. I had hoped my first 24 hour Read-a-thon would be memorable, but not for being ill. I will attempt to stay awake and get some reading done. I pushed my list of what I had planned to read aside since, well, my body has chosen to revolt against me. I took something for my fever and I am beginning, late, but at lest I am beginning. I do not honestly think I will make it through my first book, but I am going to try!
Currently reading: Silk Flowers Never Die by Stella Mazzucchelli
Pages: 1 of 404 pages

I will add updates as I am able.
This will be my first year participating in Dewy’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon, which will take place on October 24, 2009 at 8am Eastern. To learn more, as there are several ways to participate, visit the official site.
Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated. I know that I will not be able to read for 24 straight hours, and I shall be working out a schedule of family time and choosing books. Maybe my teens will join in the fun!
