The book was exceptional.
I love the irascible loner cop archetype. Another is Harry Bosch, the lead in the Michael Connelly novels..
In ways yes. He makes Bosch seem chipper at times. It is a fabulous series.
Great teaser! Is this a Scandinavian detective novel like the Wallander books or Millenium trilogy?
I actually compare it him to Kurt Wallander in my review which goes live soon. Almost as dark as Wallander, absolutely wonderful and fully Norwegian.
This is a new-to-me author, but I love the sound of the teaser.

Great teaser lines and fantastic review. I have several books by Scandinavian authors in my TBR pile, I will get to them eventually.
I particularly like the fact that you think this is a stand alone story and you don’t necessarily have to read the whole series in any order.
I do think it can be read alone Detective Harry Hole of course grows and changes as the series progresses, but overall yes, the series can indeed be read out of order. This was actually the first time I read one of Jo Nesbø’s books in English and it was well done.
I haven’t heard of this book before but the teaser got me attention might have to check it out. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I’m just delighted with your TT and review of Devil’s Star. In last year have read all of Henning Mankell’s novels which prompted great interest in Scandinavian crime writers. Have been looking for other good writers of this genre as I hope to visit Scandinavia this summer. Will definitely add Nesbo to list, based on your review.

This is brilliant to hear. Henning Mankell is my all time favourite and if you enjoy reading the Kurt Wallander series you will enjoy Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole series.
