The Sunday Salon (TSS: 11/14)

The Sunday Salon.com

Life: My in-laws emailed pictures to me showing beautiful, glorious snow.  The awoke to almost 6 inches.  I was very envious.  It was in the 70s here today.  No snow in my future.  However, I am hopeful and as I mentioned last week I joined two Christmas swaps worth checking into Book-lovers Secret Santa Swap and Book Blogger Holiday Swap.

Family Update: The musical opened without a hitch, my twins turn 16 this week and it will also be DH’s birthday.  My in-laws arrive from out of state on Friday and plan to celebrate the birthdays with us as well as go to a special showing of the musical which means less time for books but a lot of cake. :)

Saturday Night: It was a quiet night.  Two of the three boys were out and I went and did some shopping then came home and the third son left.  DH worked while I read.  Not an exciting Saturday.

Read and Reviewed: I managed to read and review 14 books.

If you do not want to wait until Monday to see the entire list for the week, all my reviews are up and as usual I love comments.

Today I will be reading: The Mermaid’s Pendant by Leann Neal Reilly.

Happy Reading and please feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

Visit the The Sunday Salon.

Book Review: Song Of The Orange Moons by Lori Ann Stephens

Title: Song of the Orange Moons
Author: Lori Ann Stephens
Publisher: Blooming Tree Press
Publication Date: November 9, 2010
Paperback: 296 pages
ISBN: 978-1401341350
Genre: Fiction

From the Author:

Song of the Orange Moons is a mosaic of stories that follows the intertwined lives of three girls coming of age. Two young girls from Jewish and Christian families and their elderly widow next door try to find happiness in a seemingly cruel world. In spite of their different cultural and economic backgrounds, Rebecka, Helen, and Adelle all share the delicate and self-conscious journey to womanhood. All three search for love and meaning in a variety of places—a charismatic church, a Depression-era orphanage, a moonlit Savannah park, an orthodox Jewish boarding school—and end up finding lasting strength in the power of their friendships.

My Review:

Beautifully written Song of the Orange Moons by Lori Ann Stephens is a lovely novel of friendships amongst three women, who learn to come into their own and what defines them individually.  Stephens creates such a beautiful novel it was impossible to put it down.  Stephens main characters Rebecka, Helen, and Adelle are well drawn out, vivid and women I would like to know.  All three come from different backgrounds, religions and socio-economic statuses, yet they share the bond of friendship and womanhood.  It has been quite some time since I read such a beautiful and diverse story of friendships as found in Song of the Orange Moons and I was held captivated by the story caught between wanting to know what would happen next and not wanting the story to end.  I look forward to reading more works from author Lori Ann Stevens.  I highly recommend Song of the Orange Moons to all my readers as well as to book discussion groups.

About the Author: Please visit Lori Ann Stephens’ website for information about her book, discussion questions, a book trailer and much more.
