Spring is here! Last year we only had purple crocus, but this year we have yellow and white as well as purple, I have no idea how.

Okay.. Here is a weird happening for you-
In fall I bought and planted a pack of crocus bulbs. Mixed colours.
I planted about 2/3rds of them in my lawn, and the other 1/3rd I put in my front garden.
Somehow I managed to get all the yellow crocuses in the garden box, and all the white and purple on the lawn.
They weren't marked. How on earth did THAT happen?
