My Review:

The Latin Grill is a delightful cookbook filled with 80 mouth-watering recipes along with photographs of many of these exquisite dishes. The cookbook is easy to follow and includes a section devoted to explaining how to use this book. After a brief introduction, the merits of gas over charcoal grills is discussed followed by the tools of choice to use while preparing the actual meals presented in this cookbook. Each recipe comes complete with an antidote about the dish itself, the ingredients needed to make the dish and easy to follow steps to make the recipe. I am known for being a relatively poor chef, yet even I made a decent Grilled Caesar Salad, page 47 which I plan to follow up with the Coconut Tres Leches Cake, page 121. From the basics to beverages The Latin Gill has it covered in this is a delightful, cheery, and very user-friendly cookbook that is sure to please anyone who enjoys making and eating good food.

My Review:

As a long time fan of Tom Venuto’s philosophy on fitness, I was thrilled to be able to read and review his book The Body Fat Solution in which Venuto outlines the five principles for burning fat and building lean muscle. Venuto takes a realistic look at how one’s eating and exercise work together to build a healthier and leaner body while building up muscle mass. Venuto’s book is divided into 12 chapters beginning with defining obesity and debunking so many myths that exist about weight loss. Venuto goes on to explain why eating more and more frequently rather than the common trendy “diets” of eating fewer calories, helps not only shed unwanted body fat, but in the long run will help build up one’s muscle mass. Venuto tackles the tough issues such as over-eating, re-programming the way one views diets and weight loss, body image and reprogramming one’s mind to think positively about food. Venuto proceeds with well laid out sections describing as well as depicting exercises and how to put them together to create exercise routines. No stone is left unturned as Venuto even discusses healthy relationships, social networking, and the need to be accountable as well as the need for support. The final section puts everything neatly together for the reader, making certain the reader is armed with the tools necessary to succeed. The Body Fat Solution concludes with Appendices; online support, calorie calculations, recommend foods, and sample menus to get one started to the road to fitness. The Body Fat Solution is an excellent book for anyone tired of fad diets, actually dieting in general, and is looking for sound advice on how to become healthier, leaner, and have a healthy lifestyle.

About the novel:

On May Day, 1464, six-year-old Katherine Woodville, daughter of a duchess who has married a knight of modest means, awakes to find her gorgeous older sister, Elizabeth, in the midst of a secret marriage to King Edward IV. It changes everything—for Kate and for England.

Then King Edward dies unexpectedly. Richard III, Duke of Gloucester, is named protector of Edward and Elizabeth’s two young princes, but Richard’s own ambitions for the crown interfere with his duties…

Lancastrians against Yorkists: greed, power, murder, and war. As the story unfolds through the unique perspective of Kate Woodville, it soon becomes apparent that not everyone is wholly evil—or wholly good.

My Review:

The Stolen Crown is a beautifully written novel filled with eloquent prose depicting a dreadful period of the English Monarchy, The War of the Roses. The Stolen Crown begins near the end of 1493 with Duke Harry Stafford imprisoned and about to be executed for treason. Susan Higginbotham masterfully takes the reader back to the beginning allowing the tale to unfold, told in alternating voices of Duke Harry Stafford and Katherine Woodville, and through them the reader is taken the best and worst of times in England starting with 1464 and ending in 1496 England. This time period is best known as The War of the Roses and Higginbotham’s novel is not only well researched, but also expertly crafted rendering the reader unable to set the novel down. The Stolen Crown is an absolute must read for anyone who is a fan of historical fiction. For those who have yet to try this genre, this novel would make an excellent introduction to the genre.

About the author:

Susan Higginbotham is the author of two historical fiction novels. The Traitor’s Wife, her first novel, is the winner of ForeWord Magazine’s 2005 Silver Award for historical fiction and is a Gold Medalist, Historical/Military Fiction, 2008 Independent Publisher Book Awards. Aloha Friday 5 March

Since it is Friday, and I am exhausted, question is going to require as little brain power as possible.

The question for today: Are you a morning person or a night person by nature?

I am most definitely a night person. Having a family necessitates I be up earlier than I would like. However, I still manage to be up at night which is my favourite time.

Visit An Island Life for more fun Aloha Fridays.

Genre: Fiction/Sci-Fi/Romance

From the Publisher:

Especially when the passion flaring between them burns through their defenses – and love is the last thing they need to survive.

My Review:

I do not truly have a review seeing how I did not get past page 13. The blame lies with me. I failed to read the description proved by the publisher (see above). I may have been able to tolerate a science-fiction/romance blend, but the romance by page 11 was already far more descriptive than I care for. Therefore I abandoned the novel. I shall not be rating the novel considering it is my fault for not caring at all for the mixed genres. I would imagine this novel would appeal to the numerous romance fans out there who enjoy a good steamy romance novel filled with suspense and tension.
