***Brumation is a form of reptilian dormancy (similar to hibernation but metabolically different) and Sheldon is preparing, his metabolism slows and may eat very little, but he will not be asleep***

Apparently Sheldon is preparing for brumation (at least the books indicate his behaviour leans towards it) so we gave him more sand as he has been digging like crazy.

What's "brumation?"
Oh my that is certainly a curious lizard! (Sorry, not too much in the reptile knowledge here.) But it certainly does look like a big ol' tunnel to hide out in is just what he's missing. We all need our holes every once and again, no? :)
Happy WW!!
I won't even ask what brumation is and all I can think is yuck. And then, yuck.
He is a cute lil' guy! Happy WW :)
You do?
LOL, I don't even know what brumation means.
That's your PET! ooooooooo! I am scared!
I had to look up brumation. I had never heard of that! Who knew?! See, you learn something new everyday.
Poor Sheldon. ;-) Good luck with his tunnel.
Oh the poor dear. I guess today you will be playing with sand, huh? Oh...won't he be surprised?
He is looking so handsome and growing like crazy!
YIKES... lol Poor guy can't even make a tunnel :( haha
Huh...I guess I learned something new today:-)
nifty! Happy tunnel baking!
I was wondering the same thing.
Sheldon looks very big it those pics. You are a much braver women than I :)
Have fun with the tunnel making!
Hello from SITS! You were ahead of me today in the call line!! Just wanted to say hi!!!
Oh my. You are such a great pet mommy.
Cool shots! Good luck, SHeldon!
Sheldon is a very nice lizard! I once had a Green Peruvian Iguana, a Skink, and several little Anols.
Yes I am a Lizard Lover!!
Great pics!
Oh I just love Sheldon!! I have missed seeing pictures of him. So you get the job of baking him a tunnel? Did you check at pet stores to see if they have any ideas?
He really is handsome - I just love him!
Oh, what people will do for their lizards, lol. This is actually an informative post! And he's a cute lil dude~!
Not so fond of lizards, at least not up close and personal! When I lived in my house in the foothills, they somehow got into the house in one of my rooms and caused a little drama! LOL.
Yikes! I could never have one of these. lol
It's so funny to read everyone's reactions to Sheldon...do they know he is a "dragon"? hehehe He is sooooo cute but I have a goofy question. One thing that keeps me from buying this type of lizard is that I figure I would cut myself on their spikes...do you have any problems with that?
I definitely want to see the tunnel once it is finished.
I would love some brumation for me.....sleep....LOL
I love that you have a pet Lizzard. That is just like what my husband wants. I made him get rid of his snakes when we got married :)
Happy WW!
You will be learning how to make a tunnel and I think all of us just learned a new word! :)
Happy WW!
You are so much braver to me to have one of those things in your house! My boys had two geckos (sp?) and I was not disappointed when they passed away...reptiles make me shiver!
Oh, I had never heard of that. Have to show us his tunnel when you are finished. You are such a great mama.
very cool and informative wordless wednesday.
This is quite interesting to learn. I'd like to hear more about how you'll make such a tunnel.
