My desire for reading The Whole-Food Guide to Strong Bones was very much self-serving as I am in my fourth decade of life, lactose intolerant, and suddenly more concerned about my bones, how to strengthen them and not lose and bone density. I found Colbin’s book to be extremely informative without being preachy and written in a manner that one is able to immediately comprehend. Colbin looks at the whole picture and breaks her book down into three detailed and informative parts with an impressive reference section. The first part is comprised of five chapters which details understanding one’s bones from various view points such as nutrition, supplements, menopause and risk factor for fractures and other complications. Part Two consists of four chapters, which delve into caring for one’s bones through a holistic approach of proper nutrition, sufficient exercise, and spiritual well being, it is indeed a whole body approach. The final section, Part Three, is filled with mouth-watering recipes, simple enough that even I understood the instructions. I truly believe one is never too old nor too young to take care of one’s bones and this book is an excellent way to begin.
