What Are You Reading Monday?

I am trying a new Meme created by J. Kaye at J. Kaye’s Book Blog saying what books I read last week and what books I plan to read this week.

Last Week I Read:

  • The Heretic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent- I cannot recommend this novel highly enough to anyone who has not read it. I could not put it down. This book will stay with me for a very long time.
  • The Siege by Stephen White – Another page turner from Stephen White. This novel takes the reader out of Colorado and puts Sam Purdy in the lead. A change from the other novels, but no less a page turner. I dare say more of one.
  • Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell – This was my least favourite of the novels I read this past week. Somewhere through the years Cornwell’s writing has changed or perhaps my tastes have changed. I found this novel to be a good read, but not as good to me, as her earlier works.
  • Triptych by Karin Slaughter – Slaughter weaves in several story lines and flash backs to bring together a wonderful novel of suspense. I am relatively new to her works and I was pleasantly surprised by how likable even the most unlikeable characters are. Many things are not what they seem, which makes for a rather enjoyable read.

This Week I am hoping to read:

  • The Keepsake by Tess Gerritsen
  • BoneMan’s Daughter by Ted Dekker
  • Cross Country by James Patterson
  • The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist

Check back next Monday to see how well, or not so well, I accomplish my reading goals.

Book Blogger Appreciation Week Meme

BBAW runs from 14-18 of September

This is my very first year participating in the BBAW and I am rather excited. More information about the BBAW may be obtained here.
Seeing how this is my first year, I am to answer the BBAW Meme for Newbies, so off I go!

1) What has been one of the highlights of blogging for you?

It is rather difficult to choose just one highlight, but for the sake of brevity I shall try my best to choose one. I think it would be diversity. I have come across so many different blogs that I find invaluable resources, fabulous reads, educational, inspirational, and some just downright uplifting. I adore the diversity of the blogosphere and the diversity of each blog’s author.

2) What blogger has helped you out with your blog by answering questions, linking to you, or inspiring you?

This is indeed a tricky question as there have been so many. A few who stand out for either getting me more involved in active blogging and reviewing or offering constant advise and support. I chose alphabetical order. If you are not listed here, it is solely due to the fact the list could have gone of indefinitely.

Amy
Amy
Andrea
Angie
Candice
Cheryl

Jennifer
Kathleen

3) What one question do you have about BBAW that someone who participated last year could answer?

How do I become even more active? I think I have a good beginning, but I would like to keep the momentum moving and be much for far along by next year’s BBAW.

Temple Touch Thermometer Giveaway!

*****************ENDED******************

Years ago when my first son was born, the only option available to take his temperature was to use a rectal thermometer. When my twins were born, technology was catching up and the newest technology was a thermometer one could use in a child’s ear, back then there were two settings, adult/child. It was still difficult to take their temperatures as they were premature, so back to using rectal thermometers.
Now there are Temple Thermometers and I am amased and awed by them! I was sent one to review and one to giveaway to a lucky reader!

I reviewed the ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer and I am happy to report this is the most wonderful, easy, and compact thermometer I have ever used. I wish this thermometer would have been around when my boys were babies! A few things about the The ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer:

  • It is non-invasive, no need to wake a sleeping baby or child.
  • It is accurate and gives a read-out in approximately 6 seconds.
  • It has a memory recall.
  • No covers are needed.
  • The battery is included!

I have one to give away to a lucky reader! To enter this contest you must have a valid email. Open to US residents only. I will be contacting the winner via email and the winner has 48 hours to contact me or another winner will be chosen using Random. Contest ends at 6pm EST on September 4, 2009

  • Initial Entry (this must be done): Please leave me a comment with your email address telling me what feature you like most.
  • For 2 entries please tweet this giveaway and put the link in your entry.
  • For 3 entries blog about this giveaway and leave the blog link.

Good Luck!
Thank you to MomSelect for giving me this opportunity.

GC- Aloha Friday

Seeing how it is Friday, today’s question is going to require as little brain power as possible.

The question for today is: If you were to receive a Gift Card as a gift, what GC would you prefer?

I would have to say a bookstore Gift Card would be the best for me. The most practical would be Target. Either way I would be an extremely happy recipient.

Visit An Island Life for more fun Aloha Fridays.
